Roman Collar of Pope St. Pius X
The first canonized Pope in 342 years, Giuseppe Sarto was born in 1835, the second of 10 children from a poor peasant home. He was the Pope who established First Holy Communion for children at age 7 (rather than 12 to 14), advocated daily Communion, and returned Gregorian Chant to the liturgy. He died in 1914, after a pontificate of 11 years, and was canonized in 1954.
His feast day is August 21, moved from September 3, the traditional date.
